The ABC’s of Yoga by Paula Heitzner
I can remember, as a young child in public school, wanting to please the adults in my life, my family and my teachers, by applying myself to the task of becoming educated. Attention at my desk, completed homework assignments, on-time book reports, special projects for extra credit and good conduct earned good grades. Getting A’s was the ultimate accomplishment. This proved to be invaluable training for me, through the years, preparing me for the tasks of young adulthood, marriage and parenthood, and I called upon this resource when yoga entered my life over 50 years ago. Yoga highlighted the value of this early, simple system of applying effort and the benefits of self-motivation to achieve satisfaction in any endeavor.

Exploring Nature Through Art

Wallkill River School in Montgomery offers a unique program exploring nature through art. Children romp through open fields at Benedict Town Park using their creative imaginations in fun programs like NERF camp and Scavenger Sculpture. Or children paint rolling hills and river scenes plein air with a professional artist/teacher using easels and real art materials (yes, parents can join in) or learn botanical sketching basics and herbal identification on exploratory sketching safaris around the park. Art classes also happen indoors in our Montgomery galleries where children from ages 4 to teen can learn basics of art, painting and drawing, fiber, clay, anime, cartooning, and even performing and circus arts. Some classes are open to adults and children and some adult classes run concurrently with children’s classes so mom can enjoy some art fun as well.
